INQUIRY ABOUT CHAIR SHOP- We
recently received a letter from Capt. Eric Slaughter from Washington,
DC. He informed us that his church had recently purchased 150
custom chairs made in the Readsboro Chair Factory in April of
1942. They are currently restoring the chairs (34 done to date,
see above photo) and they are being used by their choir in their
new sanctuary. They would like contact from anyone that might
have worked in the plant at that time so they can find out something
about how the chairs were made and the artists who made them.
The New York Avenue Church is located in Washington,
DC and is known as the church of Lincoln because Pres. Lincoln
went there until his death.
Anyone who would like to contact Capt. Slaughter
can do so via email at:eric.slaughter@gmail.com or by phone 202-689-5707.
And then let us know so we can provide updates for the interested
readers!
SEEKING CONTRACTORS FOR SPRING WORK ON
BULLOCK BUILDING - As you probably know the Historic
Bullock Building on Main St. has been purchased (from Buzz Wheeler)
by the Readsboro Hometown Redevelopment Corp. with a grant from
the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board. We will begin work
on the project in the spring and our committee would like to use
local contractors for the work. Because we are using HUD funds,
there will be requirements (insurance/experience) which have to
be included in an application. We hope to hold a meeting with
interested local contractors to help in the bidding process. The
first phase of our work will make the first floor of the building
accessible to the community for functions. If you are interested
please send a letter to: RHRC PO Box 261, Readsboro VT 05350 telling
us your trade and experience. Contractors/sub contractors will
work under a Construction Manager who is knowledgeable in historic
preservation work. A series of 3 bids will be required for each
contract awarded.
Selectboard Meetings- The Readsboro
Selectboard has changed it's meeting night to Wednesdays at 6:30
p.m. Stop by to see what is new in town politics. They meet in
the gym at Readsboro Central School. Want to talk about local
corruption, hot issues and more? Visit our OPEN FORUM to keep
up on local opinions.
READSBORO.NET - This website
is meant to be a resource and we would like your help keeping
it up to date. Please let us know if there is an upcoming local
event that we haven't yet posted or if you have suggestions for
other pages on this site. We're also interested in starting a
"Photos" section which would showcase photos taken in
our town. Any information can be sent to us at readsborovt@gmail.com.
If you haven't already found our public message board it is located at the "Open Forum" link above.
