| LITTLE LEAGUE
NEEDS DONATIONS |
The Readsboro Little League parents have been working
hard to revitalize the playing field at Readsboro
Central School. American Legion Post 29 has graciously
donated a new backstop to the project. The Little
League is trying to fundraise the money to pay for
the shipping costs (400 dollars) and money for new
"safety" bases that are designed to project
from broken limbs. Anyone who would like to make a
donation is asked to contact Mike Boisvert or Jeremy
Green.

| LOCK YOUR DOORS! |
Local residents have reported an outbreak of thefts
in recent nights. Gas cans seem to be popular with
the thieves, so lock your garages, and be sure to
lock your car doors. Most importantly, keep your eyes
open for the lower-than-dirt people who are trying
to take what doesn't belong to them!

| READSBORO ELECTRIC |
The Readsboro Selectboard unanimously voted to sell
Readsboro Electric to Central Vermont Power Supply
at the Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008 meeting. The final decision
will have to be voted on by the people of Readsboro.
Reasons for the decision were rising costs of running a municipal utility, the unyielding Public Service Board that has held up approval of the increase in rates, and a failing system that is in need of great repair (among others).
One Selectboard member stated that the rising rates in Readsboro could surpass those of CVPS as soon as next year. CVPS has also stated they will replace poles and make improvements to the system in the near future (replace around 30 poles, etc).

| TRUTH & JUSTICE...
|
A note from one of the site editors...
The recent outbreak of thefts in our small community
has really made me start to wonder about the integrity
of those around us. Gone are the days of leaving your
doors unlocked and trusting that your neighbors will
watch for strangers. And gone is the notion that everyone
is trustworthy unless they prove otherwise. We live
in a world where you have to be wary of everyone,
a world that breeds distrust. What I want to know
is when that world crept into our quiet little town.
It's more than gas cans, cell phones and bottles of
vodka that are being stolen away, it's faith in humanity
that is being stripped from us. While our politicians
pretend to pray for the strength to pull our nation
through the crisis of war, our small communities are
being torn apart with distrust, hatred and envy. I
think it's time for people to wake up and start looking
out for one another. Time to pull our heads out of
the sand and take notice of what is going on all around
us. Time to get involved in the community and give
it our best to make it a safe and happy place to raise
our kids. And most importantly, it's time tell those
who feel entitled that if they want something, they
should earn it.

| SELECTBOARD MEETING
UPDATES... |
Highlights from the July 1st Selectboard meeting:
Forrest Hicks reported last night that the Cemetery
Commission is aware of the complaints about the condition
of the Village Cemetery. They are looking into the
problem and hope to have it cleaned up in the near
future.
There was a question about logging access and the
need for permits. The Selectboard directed their clerk
to contact the land owners involved and make sure
the proper permits are filed.
The Selectboard voted (at an Emergency Meeting last
week) to withdraw $100,000 from the interest on the
Bank of America trust fund. The money will be used
to cover expenses until the tax payments come in September,
and then the money will be repaid to the account.
The windmill contract is still being "tweaked"
by Atty. Richard Saudek and the wind corporation.
They are trying to use more accurate numbers for their
formulas. The Selectboard hopes to have more information
for next weeks meeting.
The proposed contract for the sale of Readsboro Electric
to CVPS is still in the works. Charlotte Clark has
been in contact with legal counsel and we should have
an update soon.
Ray Eilers stated that the bids for the Village Garage
siding project will be reviewed again at next week's
meeting when Barry Howes is present. There will also
be a discussion about plowing & maintaining Daubney
Drive.
Tony Caruso will contact the Treasurer concerning
the increase in the money owed to the school.
Until next week...
